Exclusive Recommendation | What to Do When You Can't Find an Email?

Edited by Rivermore Academy

Have you ever experienced the frustration of not being able to find an email? Whether it's from your boss or colleague at work, or from your tutor or student affairs department at university, missing important emails can be quite distressing. But worry not! After reading this article, you'll no longer have to fret over this issue!

Step One: Check Your Spam and Deleted Items

Did you know that not all emails sent to you end up in your inbox? So, don't panic if you can't find an email! First, check your spam and bin folders to see if the email you're looking for ended up there. Sometimes, important emails get mistakenly filtered into these folders, so be sure to check both of them!

Step Two: Search by Keywords or Sender

If you've checked these folders and still can't find the email, don't lose hope! If you know any keywords or the sender's name, your next step is to use the search bar to search for the email. Typically, the system will display emails related to the keywords, making it easier for you to locate the email you're looking for.

But here's a heads-up! There are different search bars!

If you use the search bar in your inbox, the system will only filter emails in your inbox and ignore other folders such as spam, deleted items, sent items, etc. Therefore, when using the search bar to find your email, remember to search through all folders!

Step Three: Check Your Email Settings

Sometimes, emails can be intercepted by filters set up in your email settings, causing them not to appear in your inbox. So, if you're not receiving emails, remember to check your email settings!

Step Four: Check Your Email Storage Space

There are various email services available, such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc., each offering different storage space. For example, Gmail provides 15 GB of storage space per user, while Outlook offers 100 GB of storage space and 5 GB of cloud storage space.

Generally, these storage spaces are sufficient for most users, but some users may still exceed their storage limit, preventing new emails from reaching their inbox. If you're using a different email service, you might reach the "unable to receive emails due to insufficient storage space" outcome sooner due to less storage space available.

If your storage space is insufficient, remember to clear out your inbox! If you choose not to clear your inbox and free up some storage space, you won't receive any new emails regardless of how many emails are sent to you!

Final Step: Contact Your Sender

If you've gone through all the steps above and still can't find the email you're looking for, the last step you can do is to contact the sender. You'll need to ask them to resend the email because sometimes emails fail to be delivered to your inbox due to network or other technical issues.

Not being able to find important emails can be anxiety-inducing, but don't worry! Remember to stay calm and take appropriate actions to resolve the issue you're facing.
