On 3rd October 2024, 13 MBA students from Taiwan arrived in Malaysia for an enriching study tour, led by Cammie from Rivermore Academy, who coordinated the trip. This exciting journey offered the students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Malaysia’s dynamic business environment and vibrant culture.
Over the course of the 4-day, 3-night tour, the Taiwanese students experienced a series of engaging and insightful activities. Despite some logistical challenges due to a typhoon, our team was ready and eager to welcome the group at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, ensuring all students arrived safely.
Upon their arrival, transportation was swiftly arranged to the hotel, where Cammie had already completed check-in procedures. The students were greeted with room keys and a delightful local treat, Nyonya kuih. After a brief rest, the tour officially began with a business networking dinner.
The dinner was a standout event, not only offering a taste of Malaysia’s culinary delights but also facilitating meaningful exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia’s business communities. Each student introduced themselves through a concise three-minute presentation, followed by keynote addresses from special guests who shared valuable insights into the growing commercial ties between the two nations. The evening wrapped up on a high note, with students eager for the activities that lay ahead.
Day two focused on corporate visits. The students’ first stop was the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), where they gained a deeper understanding of the country’s trade policies and business ecosystem. This was followed by a visit to the renowned logistics company istore isend, providing students with a firsthand look at Malaysia’s logistics operations. These visits offered fresh perspectives, particularly on Malaysia’s unique advantages in trade and logistics. Lunch featured Malaysia’s iconic dish, Bak Kut Teh, offering both a savoury meal and a glimpse into the local food culture. The evening’s networking dinner allowed students to engage with local MBA peers, fostering valuable professional connections.
On the third day, the Taiwanese students joined their Malaysian counterparts for an in-person MBA class. The session, centred on creativity, collaboration, and leadership, was led by a guest speaker who facilitated interactive activities. This hands-on approach not only provided an engaging learning experience but also emphasised the importance of these core skills in effective business management and leadership.
The afternoon offered a more relaxed schedule, beginning with a visit to the renowned Royal Selangor, where students had the opportunity to craft their own pewter items. Following this, they enjoyed a durian feast—a quintessential Malaysian experience. Despite the heavy rain, the students’ enthusiasm for this unique culinary adventure remained undeterred.
The study tour concluded with a wealth of enriching experiences and meaningful connections. The Taiwanese students gained new insights into business through corporate visits and interactive classes, while also expanding their professional networks during the networking dinners. Malaysia’s warm hospitality and rich cultural diversity added an unforgettable dimension to the trip, allowing students to step outside the classroom and experience the country’s business landscape and way of life firsthand. This unique experience will undoubtedly inspire and inform their future careers.
This study tour was much more than a learning experience—it was an immersive cross-cultural and business exchange. We are confident that the knowledge and experiences gained during this trip will lay a strong foundation for the students' MBA studies and future professional endeavours.
