Attention frequent travelers at the Johor Bahru checkpoints! Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah recently announced that starting June 1st, a QR code system will be implemented at the Johor-Singapore Causeway and the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link checkpoints.
From June 1st, whether you're a Malaysian worker or a traveler, you will need to use a QR code to cross the border via land routes into Singapore. However, note that this is currently a three-month trial phase. At the Sultan Iskandar Building (Causeway checkpoint), the system is initially available for bus passengers, while at the Tanjung Kupang Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (Second Link checkpoint), it is available for motorcyclists.
During the three-month trial, if the system proves effective, the second phase will expand to private cars, and the third phase will open to non-citizens, including Singaporeans. However, traditional immigration methods will still be available during the implementation of the QR code system.
Malaysian citizens can download the relevant app through MySejahtera or MyTrip systems and register with the National Digital Identity (MyDigital ID). Here's how to apply:
Steps to Use the QR Code for Crossing the Border
1. Ensure your MySejahtera app is updated to the latest version.
2. Click on "Open My TRIP" in the My TRIP section.
3. Click "Link Your Passport."
4. Read the terms and conditions, click "I understand and agree," then click "Proceed to create my TRIP."
5. Select your nationality (as a Malaysian, choose "Yes, I’m Malaysian").
6. Scan your passport.
7. Confirm your details.
8. Verify your information, check for errors, and click "Confirm and link passport." A success screen will appear.
9. Return to the My TRIP page and click "View My TRIP QR" to see your QR code.
Important Notes:
The QR code color varies by situation:
Green: Allowed to cross
Yellow: Entry to home country only
Red: Visit the service counter for assistance
Gray: Update passport
The QR code updates every 30 seconds, so generate it at the checkpoint with a stable internet connection.
Use only the QR code under your passport name.
Carry your passport to avoid system errors despite using the QR code.
