According to the much-anticipated Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2023, Malaysia stands tall at the 20th position in the coveted 'Strong Starters Ranking' among nations worldwide. The jewel in Malaysia's entrepreneurial crown is its startup ecosystem, which has been valued at a staggering $46 billion between the first half of 2020 and 2022.
The credit for this remarkable achievement goes to the unwavering efforts to foster a thriving startup ecosystem, driven by the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap 2021-2030 (SUPER). This report card signals that Malaysia's startup scene, especially for early-stage startups, is in commendable shape.
Recently, the Malaysian government unveiled "Ekonomi Madani" and pledged an additional investment of RM 1 billion to bolster startups and tech entrepreneurs. Moreover, an extra RM 100 million has been allocated to supercharge research, commercialization, and innovation, with a keen focus on the pressing needs of renewable energy, food security, and emerging industries.
When you combine these governmental initiatives with other well-crafted startup funds, it becomes evident that Malaysia is wholeheartedly embracing entrepreneurship, generously paving the way for the development of startups and brimming with opportunities for visionary entrepreneurs.
Singapore: Climbing 10 Places to Rank 8th
In the coveted Global Startup Ecosystem Ranking 2023, Singapore secured an impressive 8th position, making it the second-highest ranked Asian nation, just trailing behind Beijing.
Singapore's startup culture shines brightly with its incredible investor support, a government that actively fosters and champions enterprises, and an ecosystem designed to facilitate fruitful collaborations within kindred industries while exploring the vast landscape of potential partnerships.
At present, Singapore has extended its unwavering support to nearly 5,000 startups and consistently rolled out an array of blueprints and ambitious plans. What's truly remarkable is that Singapore's vibrant startup culture isn't confined to local residents. This is a place where brilliant business minds from around the world convene, fuelling innovation and igniting the spirit of entrepreneurship in a harmonious blend of cultures and ideas.
